This God damn society: part 2

Hi guys, it's Lauryn! Today I'm back with part 2 of "This God damn society" where I will be telling you all about more things that I think are wrong with the world. If you're yet to read part 1, stop and go over and read that one first HERE.
So, let's begin...

WE ARE ONLY ADULTS WHEN IT SUITS YOU

There are many things that go on within society which just make me think, people under the age of 18 really are only classed as adults when it suits the government and all those powerful people. I'm going to be talking through just a few of those things today such as...
Once you are over the age of 15, you are no longer classed as a child in the eyes of the train companies and therefore expected to fork out for an adult fare which is usually double the amount of a child ticket. This would be understandable if 1) It was easier to find a job to be able to fund these tickets and 2) The national minimum wage was higher for under 18's to make travelling by train a more viable option.
Also, the voting age is 18 when a great majority of the decisions being made are going to affect this generation more than the older generations so surely we should be able to have a say in it? But no, apparently not. A perfect example of this is the EU referendum but you can read more about my opinion of teenagers and politics HERE.
The main reason I point this out is because the other day, I was expected to ask my teacher in sixth form to go to the bathroom but this is while they were telling our class that we should have independence with our learning which I completely agree with as after all, most of us are 17 years old but I just found it incredibly ironic how I was then expected to ask to use the bathroom? So, it's as though they want us to grow up but at the same time, this is the only the case when it suits them.

THE WORLD IS CRUMBLING

Over the past few weeks, I have seen numerous reports of tragic events happening around the world from bombings to murders, it's truly terrifying. However, something that makes it even worse is that the media is very specific on what it covers. For example, it's much more likely for there to be more coverage on something that happens in the Western society which is incredibly upsetting because at the end of the day, so many lives are being taken and it shouldn't matter which part of the world they are from. These people are being unlawfully killed and something needs to be done about it! Along with the horrible deaths, the hatred is increasing. The problem is, people are too quick to conform to other people's thoughts and opinions so therefore this hatred is continuing to spread.

Then there's America's gun laws... you'd think they would have changed by now, right? It's sickening to see how easy it is for people to access guns. For example, a few weeks ago there was the terrible death of Christina Grimmie which is truly heartbreaking for someone(me) who loved her existence from the second she started her YouTube channel and her singing career. What bothers me about this is how did someone get through the security to her with a gun? Security really needs to be increased, especially with the lack of gun laws. Then, there was also the mass shooting in the nightclub in Orlando where many, many people were killed and injured, it is such a terrible thing to happen and I hate how these events are happening more and more frequently lately.

"Go back to your own country" "They are taking our jobs" I hate how racism is somewhat prominent in society at the moment. Obviously, racist attitudes have decreased for the most part since the 1960's however there are still those people who truly believe that white people are the superior race which is scary but true. It's just so incredibly infuriating when someone who is not qualified in the slightest is claiming that a doctor or a scientist of some sort that is of a different race is stealing their jobs. It isn't about your race, it's about how hard you work to get to where you are. Don't be rude to workers of a different race!
So, that's the end of today's post! I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I enjoyed writing. If you have any more points to add to This God Damn Society, please remember to contact me and as always my contact information will be below and I'll see you in my next post!

  1. I totally agree everyone 17 should have been able to vote in the referendum, it's a decision that will affect our generation most we have a life time to live with it where as many older voters will not. A lot of young people I know didn't vote simply because they didn't know enough/ didn't take an interest which is very sad really.

I also agree with gun laws, but because gun rights are writen into there constitution, that would have to be rewritten and personally all my American friends feel like talking a right to have a gun and that's the only way to protect themselves. Many people have and will continue to die why they have there gun laws but only the future can tell if they'll change it!

    Great post X
